Inland Navigator chartered to carry 2000te of steel girders from Goole to Leeds

Robert Wynn & Sons owned Inland Navigator has recently been the subject of much media interest. The former inland tanker barge converted to carry abnormal indivisible loads has been chartered to carry 2000te of steel girders from Goole to Leeds.

The charter, featured on BBC TV and radio, is a trial carried out by ICTT ltd on behalf of Leeds based ASD Metal Services and has seen the Inland Navigator undertaking 6 of an estimated 7 trips along the full 33 mile length of the Aire and Calder Navigation to the centre of Leeds.

ASD Metals are hoping that the trial will act as a catalyst for them to move much if not all of the 60,000 tonnes of steel they currently move per annum to there Leeds factory.

It is not expected that the Inland Navigator will be employed on a permanent basis should ASD decide to undertake regular movements. Robert Wynn & Sons offered the Inland Navigator to ICTT and ASD Metals as they were made aware that the trial may not take place due to the lack of a suitable craft.

The steel sections are up to 18m in length which fits comfortably in the Inland Navigators 19.6m hold.
