Terra Marique leaves Scotland and sets sail for another record breaking voyage

Robert Wynn & Sons specialist heavy load vessel, Terra Marique tomorrow leaves the Port of Leith on her second voyage. The freight grant aided vessel whose first cargo, the G-BOAA Concorde was transported in a blaze of publicity will be carrying on behalf of Alstom three transformers weighing some 520 tonnes and manufactured by VA Tech from the Port of Leith to the Humber.

Two of the transformers will be off-loaded at the Port of Goole and will then continue their journey by road to Drax power Station, whilst one will remain on board and is to be delivered directly to EDF Energy's power station at Cottam in Nottinghamshire via the river Trent.

The Terra Marique's voyage to the Cottam power station will again demonstrate the unique capabilities of the vessel and push the inland waterways to their limits. Furthermore, it should be recognised that this voyage will remove the need to road route this load from the Port of Goole, thus removing significant amounts of congestion along what would have been a 70-mile road journey.

The Terra Marique's passage plan along the Trent is currently being finalised by Robert Wynn & Sons engineers in conjunction with representatives of Associated British Ports and British Waterways. It is anticipated that the Terra Marique will arrive at Cottam on or about Sunday, May 16th.

Peter Wynn, Managing Director of Robert Wynn & Sons Ltd commented:

"We were privileged to be involved in the G-BOAA Concorde movement. We hope to continue to demonstrate the freight carrying potential of the UK commercial waterways for abnormal loads, first it was the Thames and now we set sail for the Trent."
